Agnisaar Kriya (Abdominal Exercise)

This cleansing technique draws its name from the words 'Agni' (Fire), Sar (Essence) and Kriya (Action). Fire is the essential element of digestion and this cleansing action stimulates this fire for the digestive system to work at its optimum level

Stand erect, heels together, hands holding the side of your waist (fingers on the back, thumb facing the navel)
Inhale and exhale normally. Now HOLD your breath.
Now bend forward at forty-five degrees. Keep your chin up and look straight. No breathing in bending position.
Start pumping your stomach in and out.
Do it for as long as you can, holding your breath outside [Bahya kumbhak]. Your ultimate goal is one hundred abdominal pumps in one cycle.
Then repeat at 90 degrees. Come back to the standing position, then inhale and relax

Note: No breathing, either in bending position or on the way up. Inhalation and exhalation should only be when you are in an erect posture. Whenever you practice kumbhak [holding your breath in or out], inhalation or exhalation should be very slow (with full control on Prana Vayu) so as to come back to normal breathing without any jerk

  This practice should ideally be done in the morning on an empty stomach but after evacuating the bowels
  People with High BP, heart disease or internal ulcers of any kind should avoid this. Also, people with hyperthyroidism or chronic diarrhea should avoid this
  Excellent for the health of the abdominal organs and the digestive system. Works wonders on a sluggish liver and kidneys. Removes several gastro-intestinal complaints such as excessive gas, hyperacidity, indigestion etc. Massages the abdominal organs. This is an excellent practice to develop control over the sluggish abdominal muscles and diaphragm. Strengthens the intestines and other abdominal organs, namely; Liver, Spleen, Pancreas, Kidneys etc. Checks chronic constipation and improves the appetite
