Acharya Mahapragya: A Master of Meditation and Spiritual Awakening

Acharya Mahapragya was the great master of Preksha Meditation who dedicated his life to discovering and sharing the practice of Preksha Meditation. Through this practice, he offered a path to inner peace, self-awareness, and spiritual awakening to the world.

A Life of Deep Meditation

Born in 1920, Acharya Mahapragya embarked on his spiritual journey early, taking Jain Terapanth monastic vows at the age of ten. By the inspiration of Acharya Tulsi, he delved deeply into Jain philosophy and scriptures. He has written more than 200 books on different subjects ie. Meditation, philosophy, Jainism, lifestyle etc. For over two decades, he devoted himself to exploring various Preksha meditation techniques, seeking a method to unlock the mind's full potential based on the scientific method of meditation.

The Gift of Preksha Meditation

The culmination of Acharya Mahapragya's exploration was Preksha Meditation. In 1975, he revitalised this ancient Jain practice, creating a systematic and accessible method. Preksha Meditation emphasises perceiving without attachment and aversion. Focusing on the subtle workings of the breath, body, psychic colours and centres. Kayotsarg and Anupreksha are the most important feature of Preksha Meditation. Through self-observation, practitioners cultivate awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. This practice helps overcome negativity, foster inner peace, and ultimately achieve the purification of the soul which leads to spiritual growth.

Meditation for Everyone

Acharya Mahapragya believed that meditation was not confined to religious traditions. He envisioned Preksha Meditation as a tool for anyone seeking inner transformation without any restrictions of faith and country. His teachings emphasised the universality of human experience, highlighting how meditation could address the common challenges of stress, anxiety, and emotional turmoil.

A Legacy of Inner Peace

Acharya Mahapragya's life and work serve as a powerful testament to the transformative power of meditation. He tirelessly shared Preksha Meditation through lectures, workshops, and the establishment of Preksha Meditation centres worldwide. At the age of ninety, on 9 May 2010, he left this world after illuminating millions of hearts with the light of Preksha Meditation. His legacy continues to inspire millions to embark on their journeys of inner discovery and peace.
